The Register’s exclusive on a UK data breach makes the national headlines

Situation Publishing journalist Alexander J Martin uncovered that UK sports retailer hid the hack from its 30,000 staff since December of last year.

Situation Publishing’s technology news outlet The Register broke a story on Wednesday that the UK’s largest sporting goods retailer – Sports Direct – experienced a severe data breach last autumn, when a hacker accessed internal systems containing staffers’ personal information. The hack remained undiscovered until December 2016.

This exclusive story was picked up by multiple national news publications including the BBC, The Sun, The Times and Daily Mail.

Update – Less than a week later The Register broke a further exclusive that the perpetrator had been arrested by police.
